DRAG RACING AT THE RACEWAY.
During the 70s, drag racing enthusiasts were able to legally drag race at the Naval Station runway; Harmon Industrial Park, and along Marine Corp Dr., in Hagatna. Outside of that drag racers with no other outlet for safe, legal drag racing; raced illegally throughout the island at such various sites along Rt. 15, Nimitz Hill, Rt. 4 Inarajan and Two Lover’s Point.
In 2001, through hard work, the support of Senator Larry Kasperbaur, many local businesses and dedicated drag racers, The Guam Racing Federation (GRF) was able to secure land in Yigo thru the CLTC, and construct a drag strip. In 2002, the Guam International Raceway Drag Strip, was officially opened to the public.
The Drag Strip is staffed by volunteers (fellow racers) who work diligently to provide a safe, organized environment for Drag Racing, whether you’re a novice or a seasoned veteran. So get your motors running, head up to the Drag Strip and help keep safe, legal drag racing alive.
